New song, first in series of film music
2009-05-31 15:49:57
I put up a new song today, in a film score style. This is the first in a series of pieces that will be used as part of a demo reel. I've already done lots of theme music, now I am going for something you would hear in a film. This first piece is both happy and sad at the same time, and features piano and strings.

New (old) Kindness Grew Up song recorded
2009-01-22 22:14:29
I have finished the song "memory", which I started writing in late 2007. I will likely go back and re-record some of the vocals, but this is very close to the final version. It will be included in the upcoming Kindness Grew Up album "Secondhand Daylight". No release date is set as of yet...because this is the first finished song. As others are finished they will be posted on the website
An update on current projects
2009-01-19 08:25:13
Since several people have asked why there haven't been many audio samples posted lately, here is the rundown of what I have been working on:
Earlier in the year I wrote and filmed a short musical about composting at the University of Washington (It won an award, so I guess I should be calling it an "award winning musical"). That was followed by several video entries into Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible Competition (one of those entries, Mr. Terrible, won the competition, and was included in the worldwide DVD release.
Currently, I am working on several album projects, including the new Cirrus Bay album (which I am playing drums and bass on, as well as recording and mixing), an album for folk singer Virginia Blashill, several songs with Donovan Richards (on which I am producing, as well as playing drums, bass, and some keys), and then I am also working on some of my own stuff.
I should have the final version of the Kindness Grew Up song "Memory" finished within the next couple of weeks. Right now it just needs the vocals recorded and a couple of small edits before mixing.
My notebook is filled with other ideas, including a set of short musicals about zombies, another dozen or so songs for both the Kindness Grew Up and They Are Deadly Sparkles albums, and the beginning of my demo reel for film scores.
Audio page is updated

News and audio samples to be updated soon
2008-08-08 15:24:32
For some reason a part of my database has been corrupted, so I will need to rebuild it. In the mean time, some of the samples and more recent news entries are missing. It shouldn't have changed or erased any of the audio content, but if you have trouble accessing one of your projects, please let me know so I can fix that as soon as possible.
Lots of new audio samples

Please excuse the delay
2006-06-26 10:17:50
There haven't been any updates recently for several reasons: The first being the fact that I am moving soon, and that means the studio is moving as well, which is complicating things. The second reason is that I have been working on themes to license out, which will be offered soon. There are a couple of projects that are completed, however, and those will be up on the audio page soon.

New site: podcastthemes.com !!!
2005-08-25 14:34:56
I have gotten so many requests to make up podcast themes for people I decided it was time to do something a little more official. Please visit podcastthemes.com and take a look at what I am trying to do. Hopefully this will be a way for me to make a little extra money, and if it goes well it may be a jumping off point for starting my own business full time.
I need all the help I can get with this, so if you know someone who has a podcast, or someone who needs some custom music for a gift, please send them my way. I will be sure to return the favor if you let me know who you are.
I was Attacked by the Show!!!
2005-08-25 00:25:44
The TV show "Attack of the Show" Played 2 of my audio masterpieces on the air today. I am a huge fan of the show, and one of the hosts grew up in my home town, so it was exciting. I think this is the first time any of my music has been played on TV, and I couldn't have asked for a better first time.
More lovely 107.7 music
2005-08-25 00:19:58
I was asked by Timberlake to do up a song for 107.7. This time it is an inspirational song that will make you want to rock out and beat up some boxing kangaroo's. RAWK!! I also did an alternative version without any listener responses. It is not as fun, but leaves some space to put other remarks in there.
Two new Podcast Themes
2005-08-21 17:28:38
I just finished 2 new podcast themes - RootCMD and Tomorrow's Coffee. Stay tuned for more in the near future, as well as a big announcement in the next few days.

Glaceau Vitamin Water...Good Product, Great People
2005-08-11 15:48:52
Today I was fortunate to run into Curt Thompson, the Pacific Northwest Marketing Manager for Glaceau Vitamin Water. Last week I did up a little song for Capable Steve, and I put a line in there about him giving out vitamin water to the people that he meets. Well, today Mr. Thompson came by my office and dropped off a bunch of vitamin water because of that. He is a really nice guy, and it is obvious after talking to him that he works for a great company. We may be working together on something soon, but while we wait to see what comes of that, you should check out their website, and if you are in the store check out the labels on their drinks. There is more to them than just nurtitional info.
Two new edits for Ben
2005-08-09 00:37:02
Since Capable Steve is no longer riding with Ben on his trip around the country, I have made up 2 edits to his theme. One includes Brian, his new companion, and the other includes a special guest for Jennifer White.
Website Problems
2005-08-07 19:43:00
The site was down most of the weekend due to a problem with my web host. I may be changing hosts in the near future, so if any of you have any suggestions, please e-mail me at signup@markblasco.com and let me know.
Generation Y Theme
2005-08-06 03:05:35
The tech podcast Generation Y will be using some of my music for an ending theme to their podcast. They are a group of younger guys trying to spread tech news, and seem to be getting some good interviews, so check out the theme and check out the podcast. The theme is a bit of a rework of some older material that I always liked, but it never found a good home until now.
Song for Capable Steve
2005-08-03 20:41:27
I have put together a song for capable steve. It is a parody of the Weezer song called Beverly Hills. This one goes out to all the sidekicks out there!
Another Game Ball
2005-08-01 12:58:43
Timberlake gave me a game ball on the Morning Alternative today, making 2 game balls that I have gotten from the morning alternative crew (that I know of). For those of you who don't know, the hosts of the show give props to people at the end of their show every day, and they call that giving out game balls. I was given this honor last month by Jennifer White, and I usually don't get to hear that part of the show, so they may have given me more than that.
I am working on another parody for 107.7 this week that I hope to have finished by Thrusday. It will be a song for Capable Steve, and I think you will like it.
New song for Timberlake
2005-07-28 03:18:10
This morning I heard that Timberlake, the producer of The Morning Alternative on 107.7, is sick with pneumonia. This sounded like a good time to do up a song for him, so I did. This is a take off of the Coldplay song "Fix You", and is called "Miss You Timberlake". Enjoy
RSS Feed is live
2005-07-26 18:26:18
The RSS feed for the website is live. If you have any problems with is please shoot me an e-mail at rss@markblasco.com. Thanks to everyone who helped me out.
Website Rebirth and Kindness update
2005-07-25 00:51:42
I have completely recoded the back end of this site so that it now uses databases to store information. This will lead to RSS feeds soon, so you can subscribe to my site, and every time there is a new song you will get it when it is new. Never worry about missing any juicy audio tidbits again.
In other news, I am working on a lot of possible projects for various people, so progress on the Kindness Grew Up project has stopped. The basic website is up, but there is very little content. Once things slow down for me (if that ever happens) I will begin working on that again.
Jennifer White - Radio Genius
2005-07-20 00:00:00
The audio page now has part three of the Radio Genius series. This one is for Jennifer White. I also did up a short intro for the morning alternative podcast.
Andy Milonakis + Smashing Pumpkins = Good Times
2005-07-12 09:00:00
A few new tracks for you. The first is a spoof of the Smashing Pumpkins song "Disarm" and this is about that guy named Andy from the Jimmy Kimmel show who looks 15 but is really 29. The other track is for Ben, the Summer Concert Correspondent for 107.7.
Oompa Loompa Fever!
2005-07-10 00:00:00
The audio page has a couple of new things - Jennifer White's Science Corner, and a take off of the Queens of the Stone Age song Little Sister called "Oompa Loompa"
Updates - 107.7, 2-bit Treo
2005-07-08 20:00:00
Jennifer White gave me a game ball at the end of The Morning Alternative today. For those of you who don't know, each of the hosts chooses someone to award a game ball to (not a real ball, but a figure of speech) at the end of the show. I was honored that Jennifer White felt that I deserved that recognition, since she is my favorite radio host out there (although don't tell DJ No Name that)
I got a copy of the final CD from 2-bit trio yesterday (I recorded their album live at the UW HUB a few months ago). For those of you in the Seattle area who like Jazz that is a little bit extreme, check them out.
Movie Songs for 107.7
2005-07-08 09:00:00
On Wednesday I was asked by Timberlake from 107.7 here in Seattle if I could throw together something about the new movies coming out this week. Loving to take on a new challenge, I agreed. You will now find on the audio page 2 songs which have similar lyrics but different feels. I wish I had more time to work on them, but since at least one of them was played on the radio this morning, I will leave them as they are.
Real Radio Genius pt. 2
2005-07-04 09:00:00
Part 2 of the radio genius ads is on the audio page. This one is for Timberlake, the producer of The Morning Alternative on 107.7 in Seattle.

A new song is up. It is a love song for Jennifer White - or is it?
New magic finger song
2005-06-15 01:00:00
A new short Magic Finger Song is up. I recycled a bit of older material to put this one together, but it is short and sweet.
Magic Jedi Finger
2005-05-22 01:00:00
There is another magic finger song up in the audio section. This one is in honor of the new Star Wars movie that just came out, and is called the Magic Jedi Finger part II. Enjoy!
Magic Finger Song
2005-05-18 09:00:01
I have another file or two for you on the audio page. I did a theme for "the magic finger", a crazy thing that one of the local radio station hosts has going on. I hear they played it during the morning commute, but I haven't heard it there yet.
New Theme
2005-05-02 01:00:01
I put another file in the audio section. It is another theme. The last one I wrote ended up on the last This Week In Tech podcast. Check it out, and make sure to tell the gang there that you want to hear that theme on the show every week!
Studio revamp almost done
2005-04-24 01:00:01
The work on the studio is coming to a close. I have one last thing to build (some storage), but everything is up and running!
No more old news
2005-04-04 12:00:01
The old news has been taken down from the site. Now that I have switched to a database system, it is just going to take too long to enter it all in. If you have questions about old stuff, please just shoot me an e-mail.
